THIS REMEDY IS GOOD FOR PERSONS WHO ARE FORGETFUL.

This remedy is derived from a common weed called as Fool’s Parsley

It is a good remedy for children who have regurgitation of food, one hour before eating.

This remedy suits young children who vomit up curd like substances, as soon as the milk is swallowed. It is a useful remedy for children who have diarrhea during dentition.

It is a good remedy for loss of memory after brain-fag, where the patient may also have an inability to think and fix attention.

It is a useful remedy in infantile cholera.  And when the body is sweaty and cold.

It is useful whenever there is excoriation of the thighs while walking.

This remedy suits persons who are worse from 3 to 4 am and evenings, warmth of the summer and who are better in open air and company.

 TIPS FROM THE MASTERS

As a second choice to AETHUSIA when children vomit milk in large curds, without hesitation use VALERIAN.

DR. Robert. L. Redfield, M.D.

Examination funk, mental incapacity: AETHUSIA CYNAPIUM.

Dr. Tyler, M.D.

This remedy is useful in children with diarrhea during dentition.  It is also useful in children who have milk allergy or Lactose Intolerance.  It is useful in infants who regurgitate large volumes of curd like substances after ingestion of milk.  This remedy is also said to be useful in Cholera, but with modern antibiotics, I am sure no Allopathic physician would take the risk of treating cases of cholera with this medication.  It may however be safely tried in children who have weak memory and forget what they have read and also in regurgitating infants, who vomit the milk that they have ingested.  It is also useful in children with summer diarrhea. It is generally safe and can be safely used in the 30th potency and can be given for a few months to correct regurgitation of milk in children or to restore memory.

Some useful Homeopathic remedies – Part 1

ABROTANUM.

index

The source of this remedy is the Plant called as Artimisia abrotanum, which is found on the sunny hills of Southern Europe.

It is a useful remedy in Marasmus in children, which is due to Protein Energy Malnutrition.  Such children have thin lower extremities with a good appetite.

The mental state of these children is that, they are cross, irritable, anxious depressed.

This remedy is suits persons whose face is emaciated, dry and pale.

This remedy is also useful in children with Hydrocoele.

images2

It is also useful in Orchitis, which occurs as a complication of mumps.

It is useful in the oozing of blood from the umbilicus of the newborn.

This remedy suits persons who are worse in cold air and better with motion.

The skeptical allopathic physician will view this remedy with lots of suspicion.  This is actually a very good remedy to treat emaciated children with a goodish appetite.  Most Allopathic physicians would like to combat Protein Energy Malnutrition with adequate proteins and other nutrients.  However, Allopathic physicians could try this remedy as an experimental tool, and they can convince themselves about its efficacy.  This remedy is better used in low potencies and may be repeated till the effect is noted. It is fairly safe when used in the 30 th potency. A small word of caution. Please do not continue this remedy for very long periods. Please consult your Pediatrician if there is no relief of symptoms. As ever, this website nor I will be held responsible if there are no desired effects.

NATURAL HAIR CARE.

Gray hair is a blessing – ask any bald man.  ~Author Unknown.

index

Introduction:

Hair loss affects about 35 million men and 21 million women in the United States alone. 40% of men have noticeable hair loss by age 35 and 65% by age 60.  Hair loss has to do a lot with heredity factors. Other reasons are due to stress, illness and poor nutrition.

 Tips to prevent hair loss:

images2

Shampoos that contain sodium laurel sulfate, chemical detergents and other cleansers are dangerous and should be avoided.

A massage with warm oil is good and it makes the hair shaft more flexible and shiny.  It also prevents split ends, which result from dry hair.

Eat plenty of raw vegetables and fruits.   Consider taking natural vitamin and mineral supplements to encourage healthy hair. Several vitamins and minerals have been shown to help hair growth and condition including biotin, vitamin E, vitamin B, vitamin C and MSM.

When you choose hair care products, look for essential oils such as rosemary, ylang-ylang and West Indian Bay. Lavender and tree oils are natural antiseptics and fight dandruff.  Vegetable oils such as soybean, safflower oil and corn oil are good moisturizing agents and condition the hair shaft.

Avoid going to bed with headbands and other hair accessories as these can lead to hair damage.

Massage of the hair scalp stimulates hair growth.

Regular trimming of the damaged hair ends prevents hair loss.

Some good natural shampoos:

index4index5    index6

The Avocado conditioner.

Chop an avocado in the blender until it becomes very fine. Massage this into the hair for five minutes. Rinse the hair thoroughly. Regular use of this makes the hair shiny and bright.

 A shampoo made from Thyme.

Take 4 tablespoons of dried thyme and boil with 2 cups of water for about 10 minutes.  Allow this mixture to cool and then strain it. Apply this onto the damp hair and leave for an hour. The hair becomes full of luster and this is good to get rid of dandruff too.

A shampoo made from many herbs.

To four cups of boiling water add 2 tablespoon of Sage, fennel, parsley, chamomile, rosemary and nettle leaves.

This shampoo acts as a good conditioner.  Sage and fennel are good conditioners.  Parsley and nettle leaves clears up the dandruff. Chamomile promotes hair growth. Rosemary darkens the hair and leaves a good fragrance

Homeopathic remedies that are useful in hair fall:

index3

There are many homeopathic remedies that are excellent for hair fall. It is imperative that one should find an experienced Homeopath, who will take a good history and choose the appropriate constitutional remedies. To give a few examples of homeopathic remedies in hair fall:

Fluoric acid– This remedy is useful in alopecia running in families.

Phosphoric acid– This remedy is very useful when there is a grief reaction that leads to hair faill.

Phosphorus This remedy suits subjects who have patchy baldness, dryness of the scalp and hair with an itchy scalp, These subjects also have dandruff and the hair falls out in handfuls while combing. Such subjects are also slender with long eyelashes and may have a craving for salt.

Graphites In these subjects the hair tends to fall on the sides.

Mezereum  In these subjects the hair fall is associated with hairs that stick together

Sepia- Here the baldness is more seen during menopause.

Silica– This remedy suits hair fall and baldness in young people

How to tackle thinning hair naturally?

Rubbing the bald areas with apple cider vinegar with a soft brush twice daily is said to stimulate hair growth.

Garlic is an excellent treatment for balding. Rub half a clove of garlic over bald and thinning areas of the scalp and then allow the scalp to dry off before rinsing. Good results are seen in three weeks.

Two teaspoons of cayenne pepper with 1 cup of olive oil, if massaged into the scalp, especially where the hair is thin will give good results.

Freshly cut onions rubbed in the scalp until the scalp is red. Then Vitamin E oil is massaged and the scalp is rinsed off with rosemary tea.  The hair is toweled dry.

Boil two cups of peach seeds with two cups of vinegar until the mixture is thick. Strain and massage into the scalp. Rinse well after 30 minutes. This is said to stimulate the scalp.

 Conclusion:

The hair care is a hot but complex market that is presently worth over $ 10 billion and it grows by about $1 billion every year. Americans are becoming more style-conscious than ever before. Instead of trying costly and chemically damaging treatments, many time tested home remedies along with diet changes can give good results.

At the end of the day, we must all realize that there is currently no cure for baldness. There are some lotions that can help slow down the process but there is no cure for male pattern baldness.

Alternative therapies for Migraine.

images

Introduction:

Migraine is a disorder characterized by repeated attacks of severe headache. A migraine headache causes throbbing or pulsating pain, usually on only one side of the head. These headaches are often associated with nausea, vomiting, and extreme sensitivity to light and sound; they generally last between four hours and three days. Migraine headaches, which are often misdiagnosed as sinus or tension headaches, are severe enough to interfere with sleep, work, and other everyday activities. They may occur as often as several times per week or as rarely as once or twice a year.

 Did you know that?

  • 28 million Americanssuffer from migraine. (NINDS)
  • In addition to this 14 million are undiagnosed.
  • Out of 28 million Americans, 75 percent of whom — roughly 21 million people are women.
  • Percentage-wise, 6.54 percent of all Americans experience the agony of a chronic headache condition.
  • Sufferers of migraines were shown to miss a collective 157 million workdays throughout one year.

(Source Migraine Update: NINDS and NWHIC)

The most common triggers for migraines include:

images2

  • Sleep changes: Getting too much or too little sleep may trigger a migraine.
  • Stress and anxiety:
  • Medications: Certain medications may increase your chance for a migraine. These include oral contraceptives and vasodilators.
  • Bright lights/photophobia
  • Loud noises/phonophobia
  • Strong odors:
  • Foods: The most common food offenders include such as aged cheeses, hard sausages, and Chianti wine; foods that contain monosodium glutamate or MSG.
  • Changes in the weather and barometric pressure
  • Hormonal changes: Hormone medications, including oral contraceptives and hormone replacement therapy, can trigger or even worsen migraines, too.
  • Physical activity: Physically exerting yourself—whether through exercise, sexual activity, or physical labor—may cause a migraine.

 Natural remedies for migraine:

None of the remedies offer a lasting and predictable decrease in the attacks of migraine.

Feverfew

index3

Feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium) is species-specific dried chrysanthemum leaves. This herb has shown a lot of promise in migraine prevention. Side effects of this herbal preparation include sore mouth and tongue, swollen lips, loss of taste, abdominal pain, and GI disturbances. In a few cases, patients reported joint stiffness and body aches following this therapy.

 Petasites

index4

Petasites hybridus, is an herb known commonly as butterbur, is a perennial shrub, which grows wild on German riverbanks. It has shown promise in migraine prophylaxis.

 Magnesium

Low brain magnesium levels has been implicated as a of cause migraine. The magnesium preparations cause diarrhea.

 Riboflavin

Riboflavin (vitamin B2) is a water-soluble vitamin has been shown to prevent migraine. In one study Schoenen et al studied 55 patients and reported that 59% of the subjects receiving riboflavin 400 mg/day for 3 months experienced a ≥50% reduction in migraine attacks compared with 15% for placebo.

 Coenzyme Q10

images5

CoQ10 has been labeled as an “energy enhancer” because, like riboflavin, it plays a role in electron transport. It has shown some promise in the prevention of migraine headaches.

 Melatonin

index 6

Melatonin is implicated in migraine in many ways, from sleep-related associations to seasonal circ-annual effects. Studies have shown that migraineurs have a lower level of melatonin in the blood.

 Acupuncture and migraine:

    index7

In one study published in the British Medical Journal, it was found that patients who received acupuncture for one year:

Experienced 22 fewer days with headaches

Used 15% less medication

Made 25% fewer visits to their doctor

Took 15% fewer days off sick from work than the control group

  Homeopathy and migraine:

index9

Several homeopathic medications have shown good results. A few remedies are listed here.

Arnica is good in treating headaches resulting from head injuries.

Belladona is suited for Right-sided headaches and migraine.

Bryonia alba is useful in migraine where the patient is disturbed by the slightest of noise and detests any movement and lies very still.

China is a useful remedy in headaches resulting from dehydration, weakness or anemia.

Cimicifuga is useful in Migraine associated with the menstrual period.

Cocculus indicus isuseful in migraine associated with worrisome behavior or insomnia. It is also useful when there is dizziness, nausea, and vomiting.

Gelsemium is useful in migraine associated with blurred vision, sensation of tight band or vise clamped around skull and frequent urination.

Ignatia amara is useful in stress headaches. The headache is associated with feelings of grief, disappointment, or sadness.

Iris versicolor is very useful in treating migraine with an aura.
\

Lachesis is useful in left-sided migraine with hot flashes and intolerance to heat.

Natrum muriaticum is useful in pounding headaches. It relieves stress-headaches due to eyestrain, excessive exposure to the sun, grief, disappointment, or sadness.

Nux vomica
is useful for headaches in busy executives, tension type headaches and headaches after hangovers.

Sanguinaria canadensis is useful in right-sided migraines centered round the eye. Other symptoms include eyestrain and vomiting.

Sepia is useful in headache localized to the left forehead or above left eye.

Spigelia is a remedy that is useful in left-sided headaches with palpitation, stiff neck and shoulders.

 Conclusion:

Migraine is indeed a tricky problem, but sufferers can lead good lives with a judicious combination of allopathic remedies, complementary therapies and non-pharmacological treatments, which should include regular sleep, regular exercise, regular meals, avoid triggers in food, avoid stress and limit coffee and alcohol intake.

Other therapies that offer help include hypnosis, trans-cutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), chiropractic, yoga, pranayama and meditation.

Among the newer therapies, directed imagery, biofeedback methods and cognitive-behavioral therapy have shown promise.

At the end of the day it should be the endeavor of the physician and the patient to find a treatment/s that optimally controls the symptoms quickly and effectively and reduces the morbidity of the patient’s day-to-day life.

Refined sugar is a sweet white poison.

Hi all, I hope you all had a nice weekend. Today I am about to bring about a controversial topic to the fore. It is unfortunately not given that much attention that it deserves. The Sugar lobbies are powerful all over the world and they have an unholy nexus with the “Powers That Be” and the truth is never fully told.  The object of this blog is just to present the dangerous side effects of refined sugar and let you make the right choice so that you lead a healthy and a holistic life. Happy reading!

index

Introduction:

Did you know that “30%–40% of healthcare expenditures in the USA go to help address issues that are closely tied to the excess consumption of sugar?” This actually means that addiction to sugar in the US results in $1 trillion in health care costs per year that could be totally avoidable.

Did you know that Coronary heart disease, Cancer, Obesity, Diabetes Type II and the metabolic syndrome could be linked with excessive consumption of sugar?

Our sugar consumption has hit the roof. Americans are eating more sugar than their ancestors. The exact figure is not known but it is estimated that it is over120 pounds per person per year and that is an awful lot.

Excessive Sugar intake could be an addiction:

“I have a sweet tooth” is a commonly used expression In fact; many medical researchers have documented the links between sugar and addiction.  Excessive sugar intake causes serious dependence and that the removal of sugar creates withdrawal symptoms.

The real problem lies in refining the sugar:

Man has tampered with sugar by refining it.  Refined sugar is bereft essential vitamins and micro nutrients such as, B-1, B-2, biotin, niacin, pantothenic acid, magnesium, and others. The body is now forced to burn this fuel without the help of the vitamins and micro nutrients and this causes a strain on the body, as it has to depend on its own store of vitamins and micro nutrients, which get depleted. Thus, long-term intake of refined or ‘naked’ sugar causes stress on the body by sapping it of its internal resources of nutrients and sub-clinical deficiencies occur. Refined sugar also lacks water and fiber

When refined sugar enters our system, the blood sugar rises and the body stores this sugar in the muscle cells and brain cells. It is converted into FAT.  That is why refined sugar intake is associated with obesity. In addition the body over reacts to refined sugar causing your blood sugar to drop too quickly. Then you feel bad, with symptoms such as headache, irritability, fatigue, and abdominal pains, muddled thinking, even blurred vision, depression and other symptoms suggestive of low blood sugar. This is the root cause for sugar craving or sugar addiction.

 Refined sugar is dangerous:

  • Sugar has been proven to destroy the germ-killing ability of white blood cells for up to five hours after ingestion.

  • It reduces the production of antibodies, proteins that combine with and inactivate foreign invaders in the body.

  • It interferes with the transport of vitamin C, one of the most important nutrients for all facets of immune function.

  • It causes mineral imbalances and sometimes it causes allergic reactions, which weaken the immune system.

  • It neutralizes the action of essential fatty acids, thus making cells more permeable to invasion by allergens and microorganisms.

Sugar can cause many health problems:

When you read the list of diseases that refined sugar can cause, hold on tight to your chairs.  You might want to fall off. Refined sugar intake can cause the following diseases:

  • Acne
  • Addiction to drugs, caffeine & food, Anxiety, Alcoholism, Behavior problems, Emotional problems, Binge eating, Difficulty concentrating, Mental illness, Mood swings
  • Allergies and Asthma
  • Arthritis, Bone loss, Gout and Osteoporosis
  • Cancer (cancer cells feed on sugar)
  • Candidiasis, Eczema, Vaginal yeast infections and Psoriasis
  • Cardiovascular disease and High blood pressure
  • Cataracts
  • Colitis. Constipation, diverticulosis, Impaired digestion of all foods
  • Indigestion
  • Diabetes, Endocrine gland dysfunction
  • Gallstones
  • High blood cholesterol High estrogen levels and Hormonal problems and Menstrual difficulties
  • Hypoglycemia
  • Insomnia
  • Kidney stones
  • Liver dysfunction
  • Shortened life span
  • Tooth decay

 Artificial sugar substitutes:

index2

Some of the artificial sweeteners are Aspartame (NutraSweet, Equal), Saccharin (Sweet’N Low, SugarTwin), Acesulfame K (Sunett, Sweet One), Sucralose (Splenda) and Neotame.

They are not totally safe. They are known to cause you to overeat. Some of them are said to be carcinogenic.

 Natural sugar substitutes:

index3

They are safer and natural and one can make great sweets with them.

Stevia is a very sweet herb from South America that’s available in powder and liquid form at health-food stores. Stevia with FOS is a nonnutritive powder found at health-food stores or in the health-food section of your grocery store. FOS stands for fruit ogiliosaccharides, which are beneficial for and support healthy intestinal bacteria, or flora.

Single blossom honey, such as red clover honey, or orange blossom honey is low-glycemic. You can comfortably use this to sweeten your beverages.

Xylitol is birch sugar, can be used for baking and sweetening beverages. Xylitol is low-glycemic and healthy for you. It doesn’t cause blood sugar imbalances or yeast overgrowth like table sugar. It’s thought to promote bone health and prevent tooth decay and plaque buildup. The only drawback is that if you eat too much, you could experience gastrointestinal discomfort and diarrhea

Fructose is a natural low-glycemic sugar that’s found in fruit. Fructose is sweeter than regular table sugar, so you need less. The high fructose corn syrup can elevate the lipid levels and increase the risk of heart disease.

Sucrose is regular table sugar and it is medium-glycemic and fine for most people if you consume small amounts, as in sweetening your coffee.

Sugar and the Environment:

Sugar production also causes stress on our natural environment.  The relationship between sugar production and environmental damage is found in deforestation, soil erosion, and consequent bio-diversity loss caused by forest conversion to sugar cane field.  Forest clearing caused widespread soil erosion and had a devastating effect on the ecology, wiping out a third to a half of the known species of snail and birds.

 Conclusion:

Excess sugar ingestion is rampant in today’s society. We are eating sugar in foods that don’t even warrant sweeteners. Sugary drinks and candies thrive in the business world.  But this excess sugar has saddled us with alarming health risks like obesity and diabetes.

The truth is, all this sugar doesn’t have to be a part of our everyday life. We can dump sugary products and take up a diet focused on nutrient-rich natural foods. Diets centered on vegetables, legumes and whole grains provide everything a body needs for optimal health, and helps to suppress the addictive desire for sweets.

Homeopathic Kit – Part 27.

INCREDIBLE HOMEOPATHIC MOTHER TINCTURES.

images1

 Introduction:

Mother Tinctures are alcoholic extracts of the crude Medicinal substances (usually herbal extracts mixed with alcohol).  Most of the Mother tinctures used in Homeopathy are from the flora and fauna of the various places in the world.

The Mother tinctures are designated as Q; for example Calendula Mother tincture is referred to as Calendula Q.  Mother tinctures are used both externally and internally.  They may be mixed in a gel or ointment base and also can be used with a simple syrup base to make it palatable for internal administration. Some Mother tinctures are also used in Homeopathic injections.

I have attempted to classify a few of the mother tinctures in the order of their clinical efficacy and not in the alphabetical order.

 Wounds and Boils:

index1  images3

 1) Calendula Officinalis Q.  This Mother tincture is useful for all wounds, especially those that heal with secondary intention. When this mother tincture is used in an ointment base, it is very useful for burns, sores, fissures and abrasions of the skin.  It has also been tried as an injection in cases of Leucorrhoea.

 2) Berberis Aquefolium Q.  This Mother tincture is used with Calendula Q and Echinacea Q for Pimples, dry eczema and eruptions on the scalp, extending to the face and the neck.  It is usually in an ointment base.

 3) Echinacea Q.  This Mother tincture is useful in an ointment base for curing recurrent boils, carbuncles and insect bites.  A dilute solution of this Mother tincture is also useful in aphthous ulcers of the mouth.

 Burns:

image 4

4) Cantharis Q.

This Mother tincture is very useful burns and scalds, when used locally.  It reduces the pain and smarting of the burn and reduces the post-burn inflammation. This Mother tincture is also useful in eczema of the scrotum and the genitals after excessive perspiration. Please note that these remedies should not be used in large surface area burns.

 Hemorrhoids:

images5

 5) Aesculus Hippocastanum Q.

This Mother tincture is very useful as a local ointment in hemorrhoids, where the rectum feels as if it is full of sticks and the anus is raw and sore.  It is also useful in anal itching due to worm infestation.

 Toothache:

index6

 6) Plantago Q.

This Mother tincture is extremely useful in reducing the pain of a toothache, due to dental caries.  It is useful in deadening the exposed root of the tooth and helps the patient to even delay the Root canal treatment.

 Hair Loss:

index7

 7) Jaborandi Q.  This mother tincture is useful in Alopecia aerata and certain stress related or post-infection related hair loss.  The mother tincture may be applied directly over the scalp (and diluted, if there is smarting over the scalp) or can be mixed with oil and applied as hair oil for the scalp.

Type II or Non-insulin dependent Diabetes Mellitus:

 8) Syzygium Jambolanum Q and Gymnema sylvestre Q.

These two mother tinctures are useful in Type II Diabetes Mellitus and may reduce the sugar levels.  However, they should be tried only in Mild Type II diabetics and should be used as adjuncts to the main line therapy.  They may be given in one glass of water with 5 to 10 drops of the mother tincture mixed in them, twice daily.

 Sleep inducers:

index8

 9) Ashwagandha Q, Damiana Q & Passiflora incarnata Q.

These three mother tinctures used 10 drops each in a glass of water and if sipped a few times every 15 minutes before sleep and useful in quelling restlessness and are very useful in Insomnia of any cause.  They are also useful having a quieting effect on the Central Nervous System in Alcoholics.

 A Homeopathic tonic:

index9

 10) Alfaalfa Q.  This mother tincture favorably influences nutrition of children and adults, improves the appetite and vigor and promotes weight gain in children.

 Conclusion:

Mother tinctures in Homeopathy are another interesting dimension of this Alternative therapy.  There are many Indian Mother tinctures that have been researched and marketed.

The Vexing problem of Erectile Dysfunction in men.

 index16images

Introduction:

Every single day, I get at least 5 Spam mails asking me, whether I have erectile dysfunction?  Whether I am able to satisfy my partner?    Whether I would like Viagra or Cialis?   Apparently erectile dysfunction is a big problem and most adult males are reticent about discussing their problem openly.  One of the most embarrassing and shameful conditions that a man may face throughout his lifetime is an inability to perform sexually.  It’s a problem that many men face throughout the world.

Several studies have looked at the prevalence of ED. It is believed that ED is increasingly prevalent with age. At age 40, approximately 40% of men are affected. The rate increases to nearly 70% in men aged 70 years. The prevalence of complete ED increases from 5% to 15% as age increases from 40 to 70 years

The other factors that have to be taken into consideration is that, a higher probability was noted in patients with heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, and those taking associated medications.

Cigarette smoking is another big culprit causing ED.  However, when it was associated with heart disease and hypertension, a higher probability of ED was noted than when it was looked up in isolation.

Did you know that?

index1

A one out of nine man in America faces problems with erectile dysfunction. That accounts for over eleven percent of all men in the country!  As far as the total number of men in the United States there are that have problems achieving an erection, the number sits at around thirty million people.

Between twenty and forty six percent of all men that are between the ages of forty and sixty-nine experience erectile dysfunction. While the problem is prevalent in those of an older age, it can strike young and old men alike.

What are the causes of erectile dysfunction (ED) in men?

index2

The most common cause of ED are Diseases—such as diabetes, kidney disease, chronic alcoholism, multiple sclerosis, arteriosclerosis, vascular disease, and neurological disease—account for about 70 percent of ED cases. Between 35 and 50 percent of men with diabetes experience ED.

Lifestyle choices like, smoking, being overweight, and avoiding exercise are possible causes of ED.

In addition, many common medicines—blood pressure drugs, antihistamines, antidepressants, tranquilizers, appetite suppressants, and cimetidine (an ulcer drug)—can produce ED as a side effect.

In 10 to 20% cases, experts believe that psychological factors such as stress, anxiety, guilt, depression, low self-esteem, and fear of sexual failure cause ED.

Let us now look at some natural and alternate ways to combat this vexing problem…

index3

 Some foods are great aphrodisiacs:

Some foods are said to increase the libido. The real reasons may be due to psychological effects on the brain, which helps release certain chemicals that increase the libido.  It is believed that plant aphrodisiacs include nuts, grains, fruits and some grains.  There is however no real scientific proof that vegetables, herbs, nuts or grains can really improve libido.  Much of our current knowledge is based on folklore.

 Vegetables.

    index4   index5

Asparagus and artichoke are two vegetables that seem to have aphrodisiac like properties although nobody knows what chemicals in them do this trick.

 index6

Celery is said to contain a hormone called as androsterone, a male hormone that stimulates sexual arousal in females.

Even vegetables like carrot, fennel and onions have a reputation of being good for the libido.  In many Indian ashrams, where aspirants are practicing celibacy, onion is never on the menu.

index7
Fruits.  Among fruits, banana takes the cake. It is said to contain certain minerals and an enzyme called as bromelain that is supposed to improve the libido.  Chinese swear by the pomegranate as a symbol of fertility because of its abundant seeds.  The peach is considered to be a seductive fruit, perhaps by virtue of its shape. Perhaps, these fruits have vitamins and minerals that contribute to the well-being of the individual and confer an increased libido.

.Nuts.

index8The gingko nut is most popular, as it is said to increase the circulation in the lower part of the body and thus improves the libido.

 Grains.

index9

Grains like oats help the release of testosterone and this helps libido.

Herbs and spices.

index10

Basil, cardamom, clove, garlic, ginger, pepper and asafetida are good for literally spicing up your sex life.

Some of the best selling herbs for libido:

index11

Ginseng is one of the best-selling herbs in the US and much of Asia.  I have to doubt is efficacy. It is valued for its revitalizing capacity and perhaps the root has a peculiar human like shape.

Horny Goat Weed is another popular aphrodisiac from China and its weed is prized.

index12

Fo-Ti is also called he shou wu, which means “black-haired Mr. It is said that a Chinese villager called “He” took fo-ti and restored his black hair, youthful appearance and sexual vitality.

index13

Damiana is a plant native to Mexico and the southern United States. It has been widely used as an aphrodisiac in Mexico for men and women.

Tribulus Terrestris is an herb that has been used in the traditional medicine of China and India for centuries.

Tongkat Ali is a tree found in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia and is called as the “Asian Viagra”.

Maca is an ancient herb used by ancient Incan warriors before going to battle to make them physically strong.  However they were not allowed to take this herb after battle as it increased the libido.

Muira Puama is called as the “potency wood”. It is a small Brazilian tree that grows across the Amazon River basin. It has a long history of use as an aphrodisiac.

.Yohimbe is an evergreen tree that grows in western Africa in Nigeria, Cameroon, the Congo and Gabon. It is promoted as a natural aphrodisiac.

 Ayurvedic aphrodisiacs:

Ayurvedic texts provide a detailed classification for male sexual dysfunction.

Herbs for promoting the quality of semen.

index14

The most prominent herb is White Musali. This herb is supposed to increase the sperm count and the quality of semen and increase the motility of the sperms.

 Ayurvedic Herbs For erectile dysfunction.

These herbs act as sex stimulants; they promote the sexual drive and increase the sexual desire.  Prominent among these herbs are: Ashwagandha, Musali, Sambal Musali and Nux vomica.  Some herbs actually cause sexual arousal by irritating the urinary bladder.  Some herbs like Suchi, Karpura, and Sarpagandha sedate the nerves and increase sexual stimulation.

 Homeopathy and erectile dysfunction.

 index15

There are several useful remedies in Homeopathy. I am only listing some of them. Please note that you should visit an experienced Homeopath and he should treat you. Please do not try these remedies by yourself. Ideally the Homeopath will choose a constitutional remedy to find a cure for this condition.

Caladium – it is a useful remedy if erectile dysfunction is due to masturbation. Penis relaxed with violent sexual desire. It is useful in Impotency in old debauches, who are unable to perform the marital act for want of erections. It is also useful in mentally and physically prostrated men who chew tobacco and experience ED.

Damiana – an excellent remedy for erectile dysfunction.

Nuphur – This remedy is useful entire absence of erections and sexual desire, these patients experience involuntary emission during stool or when urination

Sabal serrulata – This remedy is useful in impotency where the genitals are cold and the testicles and the penis is shrunk along with urinary troubles

Staphysagria – erectile dysfunction due to sexual excess

Moschus – This remedy is useful in erectile dysfunction associated with diabetes mellitus.

“Worry is to human beings … what a condom is to a man with erectile dysfunction.”
― Mokokoma Mokhonoana

Victims of this malady should first consult their physicians to rule out any organic disease or drug interactions. There are drugs for this disease.  Between Viagra and Cialis, I find that Cialis is safer in my allopathic practice. If these drugs do not work, there are papaverine injections, which give you a goodish erection. The ultimate allopathic weapon is the penile implants, which offer good results in well-selected subjects.

If the cause is psychological, which is about 10 to 20 % then counseling may be the best answer.  Ultimately sufferers of psychological ED should realize that sex is an act, which is begins between the ears (in the mind) and not an act, which is between the legs alone.

 Have a nice weekend!
