BACH FLOWER REMEDIES.

Bach flower therapy believes that diseases are a result of disharmony between the spiritual and mental dimensions of man. Bach flower remedies balance the mental dimension of humans and heal the body.

Introduction:

This therapy owes its existence to Dr. Edward Bach, a Harley Street specialist in London.  He found Homeopathy very tedious and time consuming.  In 1930 he began wandering the forests and hills in search of healing plants, which would heal a sick man without any side effects.  Being an intensely spiritual man, he was able to visualize a plant as an aid to healing the mind of the patient, just by meditating on it.

It did not matter to Dr. Bach what physical ailment the patient suffered from, but his main theory was that disease was as a result of disharmony between the spiritual and mental aspects of man.  The conflicting moods, hate and other negative emotions produce much unhappiness and this lowers the “Vital force” and causes disease. His theory was that by balancing the mental side of a person, the ‘vital force’ becomes strong and this heals the body.

There are about 30 popular Bach flower remedies. They are dilutions of the flowers with alcohol and they are dispensed in the liquid form.

Some useful Bach Flower Remedies:

Aspen is a remedy that is useful to combat unknown fears, when the patient is terrified that something terrible is going to happen.

Beech is useful when the patient is very critical and intolerant and always judging others.

Chestnut Bud is very useful for persons who repeatedly make mistakes in life.

Heather suits persons who are self centered with incessant talking.

Holly is useful for persons who are jealous, revengeful, suspicious, and envious and lack love.

Larch is a remedy that suits persons who have no confidence in their own ability and do not make further attempts when they fail.

Rescue Remedy is one of the most popular Bach flower remedies.  It is the combination of Rock Rose (terror and panic), Impatiens (mental stress and tension), Bethlehem (shock), Cherry Plum (desperation), Clemitis (light-headedness).  This remedy is a lifesaver and useful in emergencies.

Conclusion: Bach flower remedies are Holistic. This Alternative system is popular in Europe and can be studied and used by the layman for common mental fears and anxieties.

TIPS FROM THE MASTERS…

At birth, I give a dose of MEDORRHINUM if the child is inclined to be gross with a large head; if it is a little bit of a skinny baby that is snuffling almost as soon as it breathes, underweight, wrinkled and old looking, I give a dose of SYPHILINUM.

Dr. Krichbaum.

In children who look ‘old, dwarfed, wrinkled’, with also T.B heredity, SYPHILINUM and BACILLINUM given in turn, will work wonders.

Dr. Noel Pudephatt.

In old Syphilitics and non-syphilitics suffering for years and years from affections of the throat and skin, SYPHILINUM is indicated.

Dr. Leon. Renard.

If arthritic attacks alternate with urticaria, never occurring simultaneously, consider URTICA URENS. If arthritic pains alternate with pains, which change from throat to ear, from trachea or bronchi to teeth and if the pains are markedly aggravated from sunset to sunrise, SYPHILINUM is probably indicated especially if the patient dreads the night because of the suffering and subsequent weakness.

Dr. H. A. Roberts, M.D.

When the patient is aggravated by SULFUR, we must always think of the existence of a latent state of syphilis, if PULSATILLA, another antidote of SULFUR does not produce any result. (SYPHILINUM is an antidote to SULFUR).

Dr. Leon. Renard.

I have experimented more with so-called nosodes, and have had seemingly very good results from MEDORRHINUM as well as SYPHILINUM in intractable case of chronic rheumatism.  The most characteristic difference is that with MEDORRHINUM, the pains are worse in the daytime and with SYPHILINUM, in the night.

Dr. Nash, M.D.

When TUBERCULINUM fails, try SYPHILINUM, it often arouses a reaction.

Dr. William. Boericke, M.D.

In lymph-sarcoma, think of SYPHILINUM and CISTUS CANEDENSIS.

Dr. Leonrenard.

In primary Syphilis, SYPHILINUM has little or no effect at all and then MERCURY should be given in higher potencies.  SYPHILINUM will be useful as a remedy will be of great value in old syphilitics, where convalescence is particularly long after and acute disease.  It is in a way that when a patient that when a patient is slowly re-establishing himself after Typhoid, a single dose of SYPHILINUM will bring him his appetite, strength, sleep and a rapid gain of his former weight.

Dr. Kent, M.D.

When SULFUR is prescribed in any case and produces alarming aggravation, one must think of the existence of a latent state of syphilis and then SYPHILINUM works well and antidotes the over action of SULFUR.

Dr. W. H. Goodwin.

GRAPEFRUIT SEED EXTRACT.

Introduction:

Grapefruit Seed has antibiotic, anti-septic, disinfectant properties and is also used as a preservative in food and cosmetics.

The Grapefruit seed extract (GSE) owes its existence to Dr. Jacob Harish, who was a physicist.  World War II forced him to abandon his studies and become a fighter pilot. Just after the war Dr. Jacob Harish was breakfasting on Grape fruit, which was a rare treat in France.  While he savored the sweetness of the fruit, he was intrigued by its bitter taste of the seed and wondered if it had any medicinal properties.

It took years of perseverance on Dr. Jacob’s part to study this fruit. More herbal, plant and fruits should be investigated for anti-microbial properties.  After the war, he migrated to the US and took a medical degree and did research on Grapefruit Seed Extract and found it useful.

Grapefruit extract is non-toxic, environmentally safe and quickly biodegradable and it is inexpensive. Dr. Harish was honored for his pioneering work and was invited to Europe, as a guest of honor at the Pasteur Institute of France, which is Europe’s leading AIDS research center.   For years, this Institute has been researching the potential of GSE, as a prophylactic against the HIV virus, as well as against the secondary infections associated with AIDS.  The farmers of Europe now use a powdered form of GSE, in fish and poultry feed to fight pathogenically lethal bacteria, such as Salmonella and E Coli.

The uses of Grapefruit Seed Extract:

  • Reports from the University of Georgia in Athens, by Dr. Wyatt have proved that GSE has a wide spectrum of activity that offers antiviral, antibacterial (both against Gram + and Gram – bacteria), antifungal and antiprotozoal activity.
  • When GSE is mixed with soap and cleaning products, the cleansing product only kills the germs and does not harm the skin.
  • It is extremely useful when used as a pre-surgical scrub for a minute
  • A growing number of dermatologists, aestheticians and cosmetologists are using GSE mixed in soaps and skin cleaners.
  • A few drops of GSE have been found to be useful when put in one glass of water, as a preventative for “Traveler’s Diarrhoea”.
  • 3 to 4 drops of GSE per gallon of reservoir water into a humidifier will prevent the growth of algae.
  • It is a sure shot remedy in cases of Sore throats caused by Streptococci and gargling water with GSE definitely prevents sore throats.
  • It has been found useful by dentists to cure Oral thrush infections due to Candidial infections.
  • It has been found to be useful in protozoal infections such as Amoebiasis.

Conclusion:

Research into the flora and fauna has become very important because we are living in an era of bacterial resistance to antibiotics and a tremendous and frightful resurgence of killer viruses like Hepatitis and AIDS.   Perhaps, the answer to infectious diseases lies in cheap Holistic Alternatives such as the humble Grape fruit Seed Extract and many other unknown plants and fruits.
